FAQ
How much is an appraisal fee usually?
An equipment appraisal fee is typically a fixed cost quoted after the scope of the assignment is confirmed, since it's driven by how many assets are involved, how complex they are, and what the report needs to accomplish rather than a flat industry rate.
Houston Equipment Appraisers prices every engagement as a fixed fee, agreed before work begins, never billed hourly. Several factors shape that number:
- Number of assets: a single machine costs less to appraise than a full production line, fleet, or facility-wide inventory.
- Complexity of the equipment: specialized machinery, such as diagnostic imaging systems or custom industrial lines, requires more research and documentation than standard construction or agricultural equipment.
- Inspection type: on-site inspections involve travel and physical documentation, while desktop appraisals built from photographs, specifications, and maintenance records can be more economical.
- Intended use of the report: an IRS-qualified appraisal for estate tax or charitable donation purposes, an SBA lender's collateral package, or litigation support each carries different documentation and reporting requirements that affect scope.
Note that the fee reflects the work of preparing the report, not the value of the equipment itself. A high-value asset doesn't automatically cost more to appraise; a complex or hard-to-document one usually does.
Because scope varies so much between a single forklift and a multi-location manufacturing portfolio, we don't publish a flat price list. The most accurate way to get a number is to request an appraisal and describe your equipment and its purpose; we'll confirm scope and provide a fee estimate before any work begins.
