WHY LENDERS REQUIRE IT

Lenders require an independent equipment appraisal to confirm collateral value before extending credit

Before a bank, SBA lender, or asset-based lender advances funds against machinery, it needs an independent, documented value for the equipment pledged as collateral. That value sets the advance rate and the loan-to-value calculation that protect the lender's exposure.

Collateral appraisals typically report value under more than one standard. Fair market value (FMV) reflects a sale between a willing buyer and seller with adequate market exposure. Orderly liquidation value (OLV) reflects a time-limited private sale, and forced liquidation value (FLV) reflects an auction under time pressure. We confirm which standard your lender requires and report each one the collateral file calls for.

Every report is prepared in accordance with USPAP so your lender has a credible, defensible basis for the decision. When you are ready, request an appraisal and we will scope the assignment with you.

FAQ

What borrowers and lenders ask before ordering an equipment appraisal for financing

What value standard does a lender require on an equipment appraisal?

Most lenders require fair market value (FMV) plus one or both liquidation standards, orderly liquidation value (OLV) and forced liquidation value (FLV). FMV reflects a typical sale between willing parties, OLV reflects a time-limited private sale, and FLV reflects an auction under time pressure. We confirm the standard your lender needs before we begin and report each value the collateral file requires.

Does an SBA loan require an equipment appraisal?

SBA 7(a) and 504 lenders generally require an independent equipment appraisal when the financed or pledged equipment exceeds the SBA's stated threshold, or when there is a close relationship between the buyer and seller. We prepare our reports in accordance with USPAP and SBA appraisal requirements so your lender has a defensible valuation for the file.

How does an equipment appraisal support my loan application?

The appraisal gives the lender an independent, documented value for the machinery pledged as collateral. That value drives the advance rate and loan-to-value calculation, letting the lender extend credit with confidence that the collateral supports the exposure.

Can you appraise equipment across multiple locations for one loan?

Yes. We regularly value multi-asset, multi-site fleets for a single financing package, coordinating inspections across locations and consolidating the results into one USPAP-compliant report.

How current must the appraisal be for financing?

Lenders typically want a current appraisal, often dated within the past 12 months, and may require an updated valuation at renewal or workout. If your equipment values have shifted, we can prepare a fresh report or an update to a prior appraisal.
